The Lawson Cypress Chamaecyparis lawsoniana ‘Snow White’ is a beautiful evergreen conifer that brings a splash of brightness to any garden. This variety is prized for its eye-catching creamy-white foliage, which creates a lovely contrast alongside other green plants.

‘Snow White’ forms a neat, conical outline that works perfectly in smaller gardens or as a focal point in larger spaces. It’s a slow grower, typically reaching around 2-3 metres tall after 10 years.

The leaves are soft and scale-like, giving this tree a fine, almost feathery texture. The creamy-white tones are particularly vibrant on fresh growth, offering a pleasing contrast with the slightly more muted inner branches.

This conifer is quite tough and handles our climate well. It does best in full sun to partial shade and likes well-drained soil. Once settled in, it can cope with drier spells, making it a practical choice for gardeners who want something reliable.

‘Snow White’ keeps its natural form with minimal pruning needed. It’s also quite resilient against common pests and diseases, which means less fuss for you.

When winter arrives and many plants have dropped their leaves, ‘Snow White’ keeps going with its pale foliage. It’s particularly useful for brightening up shadier spots in the garden.

This variety is brilliant for adding year-round structure to your planting scheme. It looks great on its own, mixed with other plants, or even grown in a large pot on the patio.

Lawson Cypress has been a garden favourite since Victorian times. The ‘Snow White’ form gives you a fresh take on this traditional tree, combining heritage appeal with something a bit different for your garden.

Lawson Cypress ‘Snow White’ is relatively easy to care for, which is good news for UK gardeners. It prefers full sun to partial shade and moist, well-drained soil, but it’s adaptable to various soil types. When you first plant it, water regularly for the first growing season to help it establish. After that, it appreciates consistent moisture but can tolerate short periods of drought. Feed it with a slow-release, balanced fertiliser in spring. Pruning isn’t usually necessary unless you want to maintain a specific shape or size. If you need to prune, do it in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.
