Japanese Cedar Cryptomeria japonica ‘Tilford Gold’ is a special variety of the Japanese cedar that’s loved for its stunning foliage and compact form.

The main attraction of ‘Tilford Gold’ is its brilliant golden-yellow leaves. This bright colouring really makes it stand out in gardens. The golden colour is most vivid during spring and summer, bringing a lovely warm tone to any planting scheme.

This variety grows into a neat, cone-shaped tree that stays quite compact. It’s perfect for smaller gardens or works well as a feature tree in larger spaces too.

Japanese Cedar ‘Tilford Gold’ grows slowly, so you won’t need to worry about it getting too big too quickly. This makes it quite easy to look after for most gardeners.

This tree is tough enough for gardens right across Britain and will grow in most soil types, though it does best in well-drained ground. It can also cope with pollution, making it a good choice for town gardens.

The golden leaves look good all year round, though they might get a slight green tinge in winter. The sunny colour stays most striking when the tree is planted somewhere it gets plenty of light.

‘Tilford Gold’ works brilliantly as a single feature tree or mixed in with other plants in borders. The golden foliage creates lovely contrast and helps draw the eye to particular spots in the garden.

Being slow-growing means ‘Tilford Gold’ needs very little pruning. You might just need to tidy up the shape now and then or remove any dead bits.

Japanese Cedar Cryptomeria japonica ‘Tilford Gold’ supplied well rooted in a 2L pot approx 20/40cm tall.
