The Negishi Japanese White Pine is a lovely compact conifer that adds a touch of Japanese garden style to any outdoor area. This naturally slow-growing pine creates a neat, rounded mound that tends to spread outwards more than it grows upwards. The attractive blue-green needles appear in tidy clusters of five, giving the plant a wonderfully tactile look. New growth appears each spring as pale candles, creating a beautiful contrast against the older foliage. Over time, this pine develops a pleasantly uneven form that suits both classic and contemporary gardens perfectly. It works brilliantly in smaller plots, amongst rocks, or grown in pots. Originally discovered in Japan, the Negishi has been valued in Japanese gardens for many years.
Give your Negishi Pine a sunny or lightly shaded position with soil that drains well. It’s not particularly choosy about soil conditions, but proper drainage is crucial. Water it well during its first year, then only when the weather’s dry once it’s settled in. You can pinch back roughly half the new spring candles to maintain its compact size and promote thicker growth. A once-yearly feed with standard fertiliser in spring helps, though don’t go overboard. This pine rarely needs pruning – simply cut out any dead or rubbing branches during late winter.

Seeds
We generally send seeds out via Royal Mail Second Class. It’s the safest and easiest way to deliver seeds.
Young Trees
Young trees (Less than 1.2m) will generally be sent via Evri.
Larger quantities of young trees will be sent via ParcelForce or pallet courier..
Huge Trees
Some of our huge trees are too tall to be sent via a courier. They are generally only available for collection from our nursery, local delivery or via occasionally pallet courier. This will be shown on the individual product page.
