Japanese White Pine ‘Tempelhof’ Pinus parviflora ‘Tempelhof’ is a beautiful compact conifer that adds style and character to gardens. This variety is loved for its rounded, ball-like shape and attractive blue-green needles. The needles grow in groups of five, creating a soft, delicate look. Over time, ‘Tempelhof’ forms a gently flattened crown that looks rather like a bonsai.
This pine grows quite slowly, usually reaching just 1–2 metres tall after 10 years, which makes it ideal for smaller gardens, rockeries, or growing in pots. Small brown cones develop in spring, adding extra appeal. The ‘Tempelhof’ variety came from Germany and takes its name from Berlin’s well-known airport, a nod to its neat and organised form. Its gentle growth and tidy size make it a great pick for gardeners wanting an easy-care evergreen feature.

Japanese White Pine ‘Tempelhof’ is relatively easy to care for, making it suitable for both novice and experienced gardeners. It prefers full sun to partial shade and thrives in well-drained, slightly acidic soil. When planting, ensure good drainage, as this pine doesn’t tolerate waterlogged conditions. Water regularly during its first growing season to establish a deep root system, then reduce watering as it matures. This tree is drought-tolerant once established. Pruning isn’t usually necessary, but you can remove dead or damaged branches in late winter if needed. To maintain its compact shape, you can pinch back new growth in spring. ‘Tempelhof’ is generally pest and disease resistant, but keep an eye out for pine needle scale or spider mites. Protect from harsh winds, especially in winter. With proper care, this beautiful pine can be a long-lasting feature in your garden.

Seeds
We generally send seeds out via Royal Mail Second Class. It’s the safest and easiest way to deliver seeds.
Young Trees
Young trees (Less than 1.2m) will generally be sent via Evri.
Larger quantities of young trees will be sent via ParcelForce or pallet courier..
Huge Trees
Some of our huge trees are too tall to be sent via a courier. They are generally only available for collection from our nursery, local delivery or via occasionally pallet courier. This will be shown on the individual product page.
