Supplied as a tree form rather than the typical bush form. ‘Albospica’ represents the ‘tree phase’ of the Sequoia sempervirens cultivar ‘Adpressa’.
Coast Redwood ‘Adpressa’ Sequoia sempervirens ‘Adpressa’ is a distinctive and compact version of the impressive coast redwood, ideal for gardens. This dwarf variety brings the appeal and character of its enormous cousin in a more practical size. ‘Adpressa’ is recognised for its thick, rounded shape and delicate, feathery leaves that add wonderful texture to any garden.
Different from its massive relatives, ‘Adpressa’ develops at a gentle pace, usually growing to just 2-3 metres tall after 10 years, with roughly the same width. This modest size works well in smaller to medium gardens, rockeries, or even sizeable pots. The leaves show a pleasant blue-green shade, often developing bronze hints during winter, bringing colour throughout the year.
The tight, packed growth pattern of ‘Adpressa’ creates a special, almost bonsai-style look. Its short, closely arranged needles produce a soft, pleasant texture that looks great alongside other garden plants. This gentle growing habit means minimal pruning is needed to keep its form, making it perfect for gardeners with less time.
‘Adpressa’ was found as a random seedling in California and is now highly valued by conifer lovers. Its uncommon presence in gardens makes it a wonderful addition to any plant collection.
Pick Coast Redwood ‘Adpressa’ to bring something special to your garden. Its neat form and interesting texture work brilliantly as a main feature or specimen plant. Whether placed in a mixed conifer area, within a rock garden, or standing alone, this dwarf redwood will catch attention and impress garden visitors.
Coast Redwood ‘Adpressa’ is quite straightforward to grow in gardens. Plant it in full sun to partial shade in well-drained, slightly acidic soil. It prefers a sheltered position away from strong winds. Water regularly during its first growing season to establish a strong root system. Once established, it’s fairly drought-tolerant but benefits from deep watering during prolonged dry spells. Feed with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in spring. Pruning is generally not necessary due to its naturally compact form, but you can lightly trim in late winter or early spring if needed. Watch out for spider mites in dry conditions. Protect young plants from severe frost in their first few winters. With proper care, your ‘Adpressa’ will thrive and provide year-round interest in your garden.
Without regular care, it develops into a broadly conical, somewhat open tree reaching 4 to 6 feet (1.5 – 2m) tall after 10 years. But with regular trimming and occasional shaping, ‘Adpressa’ becomes a fairly dense, bright white ball. We suggest keeping these staked to maintain a straight trunk.
Supplied in a 3 litre pot.
