The Giant Sequoia *Sequoiadendron giganteum* carries an “Endangered” classification on the IUCN Red List, highlighting the serious extinction threat it faces in wild conditions. Historical logging and continued habitat loss have created this precarious situation. Conservation work continues, but these magnificent ancient trees still battle climate change, disease, and wildfires. Protecting their natural environments and encouraging growing them elsewhere remains crucial for their future.

These massive evergreens grow beyond 30 metres tall, showing off their classic cone shape and rich reddish-brown bark that glows wonderfully in evening sunshine. They once grew widely through Europe and Asia, but their final wild populations survive only along the American West Coast in California.

Giant sequoias have become increasingly popular across Britain in both private gardens and public areas. Scotland hosts the tallest British specimen at 55 metres, planted over 150 years ago. These trees regularly feature on lists showcasing the world’s most spectacular trees.
