The Spanish Fir Glauca is an impressive evergreen conifer that adds Mediterranean character to gardens. Its beautiful blue-grey needles are arranged in neat spirals around the branches, providing attractive colour all year round. This slow-growing tree suits smaller spaces well, eventually reaching 6-8 metres tall over decades. The tidy, upright habit makes it a superb specimen tree for any garden style, whether contemporary or traditional.

Originally from the mountains of southern Spain, this fir provides structure and visual appeal during winter months when many plants have died back. The sturdy branches keep their attractive shape through cold weather, while the blue-tinted foliage looks especially lovely with a coating of frost. This tree makes an excellent centrepiece in borders or works well alongside other evergreens in mixed plantings.

The blue-grey foliage creates lovely contrasts with other garden plants, particularly when grown near varieties with yellow or rich green leaves. It’s a pleasingly easy-care option that delivers constant colour and strong form to any planting scheme.

Care Guide:
The Spanish Fir Glauca needs well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade to thrive. While it copes well with most soil types, it won’t tolerate waterlogged conditions. Young trees benefit from shelter from strong winds while establishing. There’s no need for regular pruning – simply remove any dead or damaged branches in late winter. Water regularly in the first growing season to help establish a strong root system, but once established, it’s quite drought tolerant.
