The Dwarf Mountain Pine ‘Palmeter’ – Pinus mugo ‘Palmeter’, also known as ‘Pal Maleter’ is a charming miniature evergreen conifer that brings year-round structure and alpine character to gardens. This particularly compact cultivar forms a neat, dense mound of dark green needles, making it perfect for rock gardens, containers, and small spaces.

The short, paired needles are a rich forest green, maintaining excellent colour throughout the year. Each spring, fresh candles emerge in a lighter shade before maturing to match the established foliage. While slow-growing, ‘Palmeter’ develops into a perfectly rounded shape with minimal maintenance, reaching just 40-50cm in height at maturity.

This cultivar thrives in full sun to partial shade and demonstrates excellent tolerance to exposed conditions. It’s particularly well-suited to the British climate, showing remarkable resilience to both winter cold and summer heat. The plant performs best in well-drained, slightly acidic soil but will adapt to most garden conditions provided there’s good drainage.

For optimal growth, plant in a position that receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. While drought-tolerant once established, regular watering during the first growing season helps develop a strong root system. Apply a slow-release fertiliser in early spring if desired, though this tough little pine generally needs minimal feeding.

‘Palmeter’ requires very little pruning to maintain its naturally compact form. If shaping is desired, simply trim the new candles by half in late spring. This cultivar shows excellent resistance to pests and diseases, making it a low-maintenance choice for busy gardeners.

We generally send seeds out via Royal Mail Second Class. It’s the safest and easiest way to deliver seeds.

Young Trees
Young trees (Less than 1.2m) will generally be sent via Evri.
Larger quantities of young trees will be sent via ParcelForce or pallet courier..

Some of our huge trees are too tall to be sent via a courier. They are generally only available for collection from our nursery, local delivery or via occasionally pallet courier. This will be shown on the individual product page.
