The Hybrid Dunkeld Larch brings year-round interest to gardens with its dramatic seasonal display. This deciduous conifer sheds its needles each winter, but rewards gardeners with beautiful changes throughout the year. Fresh green, delicate needles appear in spring along with charming pink-red flowers. The summer canopy stays a lovely bright green, then shifts to gorgeous golden tones in autumn before revealing its graceful bare outline in winter.
This fast-growing tree combines Japanese and European Larch Larix x marschlinsii, taking the finest qualities from both. It develops quickly with an upright habit, showing off attractive reddish-brown bark that becomes deeply grooved as it matures. The small cones provide added appeal, beginning purple before turning brown.
This larch works well in gardens where there’s room for it to develop, allowing its seasonal drama to shine. Wildlife finds it welcoming – birds often nest among its branches, while the open canopy lets light filter through for planting spring bulbs or woodland plants underneath.
Plant your Hybrid Dunkeld Larch in any reasonably fertile, well-drained soil. It prefers full sun but can handle light shade. While it’s happy in most soils, it doesn’t like waterlogged conditions. Water well in the first growing season, but once established, it needs little attention. No regular pruning is needed – just remove any dead or damaged branches in late winter. The tree naturally sheds its needles in autumn, so some garden cleanup will be needed.

Seeds
We generally send seeds out via Royal Mail Second Class. It’s the safest and easiest way to deliver seeds.
Young Trees
Young trees (Less than 1.2m) will generally be sent via Evri.
Larger quantities of young trees will be sent via ParcelForce or pallet courier..
Huge Trees
Some of our huge trees are too tall to be sent via a courier. They are generally only available for collection from our nursery, local delivery or via occasionally pallet courier. This will be shown on the individual product page.
