The Lawson Cypress ‘Fleckellwood’ is a stunning dwarf conifer that adds year-round interest to any UK garden. This compact and slow-growing variety of the Lawson Cypress – Chamaecyparis lawsoniana features a unique and eye-catching variegated foliage, with golden-yellow new growth that matures to a soft green hue, flecked with creamy-white patches.
Reaching a manageable height of 20-40cm at maturity when planted in the ground, this small-scale Lawson Cypress is perfect for growing in containers, rock gardens, or as a low-growing accent plant. Its dense, pyramidal habit and fine, feathery foliage create a delightful textural contrast in mixed borders, complementing both flowering and evergreen plants.
The Lawson Cypress ‘Fleckellwood’ is a resilient and adaptable plant, thriving in a wide range of well-drained soil types and sun exposures, from full sun to partial shade. It requires minimal pruning to maintain its compact shape, making it a low-maintenance addition to the garden. This hardy conifer is also deer resistant, ensuring your plants remain unharmed by foraging wildlife.
To ensure the Lawson Cypress ‘Fleckellwood’ reaches its full potential, plant it in well-drained, acidic to neutral soil in a sheltered, sunny position. Water regularly during the first year after planting to establish a strong root system, then water only during prolonged dry spells. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in early spring to promote healthy growth. Prune lightly in late winter or early spring to maintain the desired shape and size.
