The Scots Pine ‘Louisiana Lake’ *Pinus sylvestris* is a delightful compact version of the traditional Scots Pine, ideal for smaller gardens. This dwarf evergreen offers all the appeal of pine trees in spaces where standard-sized conifers simply won’t work.

‘Louisiana Lake’ stands out for its tight, rounded growing pattern. It develops into a tidy, ball-shaped shrub that seldom grows beyond 1-1.5 metres tall and wide, making it brilliant for rockeries or as a standout feature in mixed plantings.

The foliage displays lovely blue-green needles that give the plant a fresh, cool look. During winter months, the leaves often develop purple hints, bringing added visual appeal to your garden when colour is scarce.

This variety grows quite slowly, usually putting on just a few centimetres annually. The gentle growth means it stays within bounds and needs very little trimming to keep its attractive form.

Just like other Scots Pines, ‘Louisiana Lake’ is tough and flexible. It loves full sunshine but copes well with some shade. Whilst it likes free-draining soil, it’s not particular about soil types, suiting many different garden situations.

Scots Pine is a British native species, and although ‘Louisiana Lake’ is a garden form, it still offers good value for local wildlife. Birds frequently use its thick branches for protection and nesting spots.

This small pine needs little attention once settled in. It handles dry spells well and resists most pests and problems, making it an easy option for time-pressed gardeners.

Growing ‘Louisiana Lake’ brings Scotland’s wild character to your garden in a compact package. It’s an excellent way to enjoy pine trees without concerns about them taking over your plot.

Perfect planted in the garden or as a bonsai subject.

Supplied in a 2 litre pot. Approx 30cm.
