Eastern Hemlock ‘Jeddeloh’ *Tsuga canadensis* is a charming dwarf conifer that adds character and structure to gardens. This slow-growing variety is loved for its unique bird’s nest appearance, making it a real feature plant wherever it’s placed.

Over 10 years, ‘Jeddeloh’ reaches around 1–1.5 metres in both height and width, forming a compact, rounded shape that looks just like a nest. The soft, dark green needles grow in flat sprays, creating a lovely feathery texture that works well alongside other plants. Fresh spring growth appears in a brighter green shade, bringing extra interest to the plant’s look.

This dwarf form is quite different from the tall forest hemlocks, being ideal for smaller gardens, rockeries, and pots. Its neat size and steady growth make it perfect for creating miniature gardens or adding to Japanese-themed spaces.

‘Jeddeloh’ does best in partial shade though it can handle full sun in cooler spots, so it fits into many different garden situations. Being evergreen means it looks good all year round, providing shape and texture through winter months. As the plant gets older, the middle often develops a shallow dip, making the nest-like shape even more pronounced and creating interesting shadows.

You can use *Tsuga canadensis* ‘Jeddeloh’ on its own in a rock garden, group it with other conifers, or mix it into borders with perennials. It’s a low-fuss, eye-catching plant that brings a bit of woodland character to any garden, no matter how small.
