This cedar fits into different garden styles nicely. It can bring formality to traditional gardens or provide structure and winter appeal to more relaxed, natural planting. You might use it as a single statement piece, or plant several together for an impressive screen or windbreak.

Plant it in a spot that gets full sun, as this will help develop the best foliage colour. It prefers well-drained soil but can adapt to various soil types. Water regularly when it’s first planted to help it establish. Once settled, it’s quite drought-tolerant but will appreciate occasional deep watering during dry spells. You don’t need to feed it often – a light application of balanced fertiliser in spring is enough. Pruning isn’t necessary to maintain its shape, but you can remove any dead or damaged branches if needed. Keep an eye out for any signs of needle browning or dieback, which could indicate stress. ‘Horstmann Silberspitz’ is hardy in most parts of the UK, but in very cold areas, it might appreciate some shelter from harsh winds, especially when young.
