The Deodar Cedar Cedrus deodara ‘Feeling Blue’ is a beautiful evergreen conifer that adds elegance to gardens. This compact variety of the Himalayan Cedar suits smaller gardens perfectly, developing slowly into a neat, mounding form. The soft blue-green needles provide lovely contrast alongside other plants, creating an attractive focal point.

‘Feeling Blue’ works wonderfully in rock gardens, pots, or as a low-growing feature plant. Its graceful cascading growth adds texture and visual appeal to borders and sloping areas. This tough tree requires little maintenance and tolerates drought well once settled, perfect for time-pressed gardeners.

The Deodar Cedar originates from the western Himalayas. People have grown it for hundreds of years, and it arrived in Britain during the 1800s. The ‘Feeling Blue’ variety is newer, developed for its small size and attractive blue-green colour.

Though it comes from far away, this cedar suits British conditions well. It’s perfect for bringing year-round colour and structure to gardens. The thick foliage offers shelter for small birds and wildlife, boosting your garden’s natural diversity.

Deodar Cedar ‘Feeling Blue’ is relatively easy to care for. Plant it in well-drained soil in a sunny or partially shaded spot. It prefers slightly acidic to neutral soil but can tolerate a range of conditions. Water regularly during its first growing season to establish a deep root system. Once established, it’s quite drought-tolerant. Pruning isn’t necessary, but you can shape it lightly in late winter if desired. Feed with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in spring. This cedar is generally pest and disease-resistant, making it a low-maintenance choice for gardeners.
