Lawson Cypress ‘Summer Snow’ *Chamaecyparis lawsoniana* is a delightful evergreen that adds year-round interest to gardens with its distinctive cream-white foliage tips. These pale edges create a striking contrast against the darker green interior branches, giving the appearance of fresh snow dusting the tree throughout the seasons.
This variety forms a tidy, conical shape naturally and reaches around 3-4 metres in height over a decade, making it suitable for most garden sizes. Its manageable growth rate means it won’t quickly overwhelm smaller spaces, whilst still providing an attractive focal point in larger gardens.
The pale-tipped foliage is particularly effective at brightening darker areas of the garden. When sunlight catches the cream-coloured tips, they almost seem to shimmer, bringing light to gloomy corners even during our frequent grey days.
Many gardeners appreciate ‘Summer Snow’ for its low-maintenance character. After establishing, it requires minimal care and handles our winter weather well. It also tolerates urban conditions, making it a practical choice for city gardens.

The Lawson Cypress has been a garden favourite for more than 150 years since arriving from North America in the 1850s. The ‘Summer Snow’ cultivar was bred specifically for its attractive cream-variegated leaves.
Lawson Cypress is relatively easy to care for in gardens. Plant in well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Water regularly when young, but once established, it’s fairly drought-tolerant. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Pruning isn’t essential, but you can shape it in late winter if needed. Feed with a balanced fertiliser in spring.

Seeds
We generally send seeds out via Royal Mail Second Class. It’s the safest and easiest way to deliver seeds.
Young Trees
Young trees (Less than 1.2m) will generally be sent via Evri.
Larger quantities of young trees will be sent via ParcelForce or pallet courier..
Huge Trees
Some of our huge trees are too tall to be sent via a courier. They are generally only available for collection from our nursery, local delivery or via occasionally pallet courier. This will be shown on the individual product page.
