The Norway Spruce ‘Inversa Pendula’ is a striking weeping conifer that creates a dramatic architectural statement in any garden. This extraordinary cultivar of Picea abies develops a distinctive narrow, columnar form with branches that cascade dramatically downward, creating a living curtain of deep green foliage.

The needles are short, dark green and densely packed, maintaining their rich colour throughout the year. Without staking, this tree naturally forms a prostrate, ground-hugging specimen. However, when trained upright on a stake, it develops into a fascinating serpentine form, with each branch flowing gracefully downward.

Spring brings vibrate red cones and bright new growth.

Young plants begin their journey at 40-60cm, perfect for establishing in gardens. The growth rate is steady but moderate, allowing gardeners to shape and train the tree as desired. The bark matures to an attractive reddish-brown, providing additional winter interest.

This cultivar proves particularly resilient in British conditions, tolerating both winter frosts and summer heat. It’s an excellent choice for smaller gardens, rockeries, or as a stunning focal point in containers.
