Lodgepole Pine Pinus contorta is a hardy evergreen conifer that adds a taste of North American wilderness to gardens. This tree stands out with its narrow, upright form and thick canopy of dark green needles. The short, slightly curved needles grow in pairs, creating a unique texture across the tree. In gardens, Lodgepole Pine typically reaches 15-20 metres tall with a width of around 5-8 metres when fully grown.
This adaptable tree copes well with various soil conditions and weather patterns. During spring, it develops small yellow male cones alongside reddish-purple female cones, which turn grey-brown as they ripen over two years. The cones often stay sealed for years, only opening when exposed to fire or intense heat – a clever trick that helps seeds spread in wild settings. Thanks to its toughness and quick growth, this pine works well for windbreaks, privacy screens, and as an eye-catching feature tree in spacious gardens.

Seeds
We generally send seeds out via Royal Mail Second Class. It’s the safest and easiest way to deliver seeds.
Young Trees
Young trees (Less than 1.2m) will generally be sent via Evri.
Larger quantities of young trees will be sent via ParcelForce or pallet courier..
Huge Trees
Some of our huge trees are too tall to be sent via a courier. They are generally only available for collection from our nursery, local delivery or via occasionally pallet courier. This will be shown on the individual product page.
