Lodgepole Pine *Pinus contorta* is a hardy evergreen conifer that adds a slice of North American wild beauty to gardens. This tree has a tall, narrow form with a thick crown of dark green needles. The needles come in pairs and are short with a slight twist, creating an interesting texture across the tree. In cultivation, Lodgepole Pine typically reaches 15-20 metres tall with a mature spread of around 5-8 metres.
This pine shows great flexibility, doing well in various soil conditions and weather patterns. During spring, you’ll see small yellow male cones alongside reddish-purple female cones, which turn grey-brown as they mature over two years. The cones often stay shut for years, only opening when exposed to fire or intense heat – a clever trick that helps seeds spread in their natural home. Thanks to its toughness and quick growth, this pine works well for windbreaks, privacy screens, and as an eye-catching feature tree in bigger gardens.

Seeds
We generally send seeds out via Royal Mail Second Class. It’s the safest and easiest way to deliver seeds.
Young Trees
Young trees (Less than 1.2m) will generally be sent via Evri.
Larger quantities of young trees will be sent via ParcelForce or pallet courier..
Huge Trees
Some of our huge trees are too tall to be sent via a courier. They are generally only available for collection from our nursery, local delivery or via occasionally pallet courier. This will be shown on the individual product page.
