The Japanese White Pine ‘Tempelhof’ Pinus parviflora is a delightful dwarf conifer that brings the charm of Japanese garden style to smaller spaces. This neat cultivar stays wonderfully compact, with its rounded, ball-shaped growth habit keeping it under 2 metres tall even after ten years. What makes ‘Tempelhof’ special is its lovely blue-green needles that grow in groups of five, giving the tree a soft, fluffy appearance. The colour stays fresh all year round, so your garden always has something appealing to look at. Small brown cones appear in spring, which adds extra charm. The name comes from Berlin’s famous old airport, reflecting the orderly, thoughtful character of this variety.
This pine works brilliantly in rockeries, as a centrepiece in compact gardens, or grown in a large pot on your patio. Its naturally slow growth and tidy shape mean you won’t need to do much pruning, which is perfect for time-pressed gardeners or anyone just starting with conifers.
Japanese White Pine ‘Tempelhof’ is relatively easy to care for, making it suitable for both novice and experienced gardeners. It prefers full sun to partial shade and thrives in well-drained, slightly acidic soil. When planting, ensure good drainage, as this pine doesn’t tolerate waterlogged conditions. Water regularly during its first growing season to establish a deep root system, then reduce watering as it matures. This tree is drought-tolerant once established. Pruning isn’t usually necessary, but you can remove dead or damaged branches in late winter if needed. To maintain its compact shape, you can pinch back new growth in spring. ‘Tempelhof’ is generally pest and disease resistant, but keep an eye out for pine needle scale or spider mites. Seeds
We generally send seeds out via Royal Mail Second Class. It’s the safest and easiest way to deliver seeds.
Young Trees
Young trees (Less than 1.2m) will generally be sent via Evri.
Larger quantities of young trees will be sent via ParcelForce or pallet courier..
Huge Trees
Some of our huge trees are too tall to be sent via a courier. They are generally only available for collection from our nursery, local delivery or via occasionally pallet courier. This will be shown on the individual product page.
