Giant Redwood ‘Pendulum’ Sequoiadendron giganteum is a truly spectacular specimen for gardens. This weeping variety of the colossal Giant Redwood won’t dominate your space like its wild relatives. While the original species can tower beyond 100 metres, ‘Pendulum’ reaches a far more garden-friendly 10-15 metres over many decades.

What makes this tree special is its drooping growth pattern. Cascading branches hang gracefully from the main trunk, forming a slender, upright column. This creates an almost artistic look that becomes a natural focal point wherever it’s planted. The drooping branches look particularly beautiful in winter when they catch falling snow.

The leaves are tiny and scale-like, growing in rings around each branch. They’re coloured a rich blue-green that stays attractive all year round and complements other garden plants nicely. As ‘Pendulum’ gets older, its trunk develops thick, soft bark in warm reddish-brown tones, which adds extra visual appeal.

In gardens, Giant Redwood ‘Pendulum’ makes a stunning centrepiece. Its narrow form is perfect for adding height without using much ground space. It suits both traditional and contemporary garden styles equally well, from grand estates to sleek modern plots.

This isn’t just an ornamental tree either. Its thick growth offers great shelter for birds and wildlife. In bigger gardens, you can use it for screening or as a windbreak. Despite looking quite exotic, ‘Pendulum’ copes well with typical garden conditions and is surprisingly tough.

Though it grows at a steady pace, Giant Redwood ‘Pendulum’ is incredibly long-lived and becomes more magnificent as time passes. It’s the kind of tree you plant as an investment for the future – something that will amaze people for generations to come.

If you want to create drama, add structure that lasts all year, or grow something truly special, Giant Redwood ‘Pendulum’ fits the bill perfectly. It’s a tree that always gets noticed and brings a sense of wonder to any garden.

Plant Giant Redwood ‘Pendulum’ in full sun to partial shade in moist, well-drained soil. Water regularly when young, but it’s drought-tolerant once established. Feed with a balanced fertiliser in spring. Pruning isn’t usually necessary. Protect from strong winds, especially when young. It’s hardy in most UK areas but may need shelter in very cold regions.

1x Giant Redwood ‘Pendulum’ approx 60/80cm tall in a 5 litre pot.
