Lawson Cypress ‘Golden Pot’ is pretty easy to look after, which is great news for busy gardeners. It’s happiest in full sun, where its golden colour will be at its brightest, but it can handle partial shade too. It prefers well-drained soil. When you first plant it, water regularly for the first growing season to help it establish. After that, it’s fairly drought-tolerant. You don’t need to feed it much – a light application of general-purpose fertiliser in spring is enough. Pruning isn’t usually necessary, but if you want to keep it compact, you can trim it lightly in late spring or early summer.
