Mountain Pine ‘Little Gold Star’ – Pinus mugo is a delightful dwarf conifer that brings year-round colour and compact charm to gardens. This particularly attractive cultivar showcases golden-yellow new growth in spring that gradually matures to a soft lime-green through summer, creating a wonderful two-tone effect. As autumn and winter approach, the foliage develops warm golden tones, providing exceptional seasonal interest when many other plants have faded. The dense, rounded habit and slow growth rate make it perfect for small gardens, rockeries, alpine troughs, and containers.

This compact evergreen conifer forms a neat, bun-shaped mound without any pruning required. The short, stiff needles grow in pairs and create a textured, almost pom-pom-like appearance that adds tactile interest to planting schemes. Unlike some dwarf conifers that can become leggy or lose their shape, ‘Little Gold Star’ maintains its dense, symmetrical form naturally, making it an excellent low-maintenance choice for both novice and experienced gardeners.

Feed with a general-purpose slow-release fertiliser in early spring if growth appears weak, though this is rarely necessary.
