Monterey Pine is the most widely planted pine in the world, although it is endangered in its natural habitat. It is extremely important for timber production Older trees make a good windbreak. In UK , grows best in areas with mild wet winters, in fertile sites. In the wild it grows on the Californian coastal fringe and is one of the trees in which Monarch butterflies overwinter. It’s huge cones open in heat, but tend to stay on the tree for years. They are an uneven shape at the base.

Monterey Pine *Pinus radiata* is planted more than any other pine worldwide, yet it faces extinction in its native range. It plays a vital role in timber production. Mature specimens provide excellent windbreak protection. This pine thrives in areas with mild, wet winters and fertile soil. In nature, it grows along California’s coastal strip and serves as one of the overwintering trees for Monarch butterflies. The large cones open when heated but often remain attached for several years. These cones have an irregular shape at their base.
The needles appear in clusters of three, looking bright green up close but appearing dark from a distance. Mature specimens develop bark with very deep grooves.
Young plants require protection from wind, but once settled they become quite thick and more resilient. Works well in seaside locations.

Seeds
We generally send seeds out via Royal Mail Second Class. It’s the safest and easiest way to deliver seeds.
Young Trees
Young trees (Less than 1.2m) will generally be sent via Evri.
Larger quantities of young trees will be sent via ParcelForce or pallet courier..
Huge Trees
Some of our huge trees are too tall to be sent via a courier. They are generally only available for collection from our nursery, local delivery or via occasionally pallet courier. This will be shown on the individual product page.
