This special variety of Scots Pine puts on a magical show in winter when its needles turn a warm, buttery gold colour. During summer, the needles maintain a fresh blue-green shade, but the real magic happens when temperatures drop. The colour change starts in autumn, and by winter, the whole tree glows with golden needles. It’s a compact, slow-growing tree that reaches just 1.5-2 metres in 10 years, making it perfect for smaller gardens. The branches grow in an attractive, slightly irregular pattern that gives it character. This little tree brings cheer to the garden just when most other plants are dormant. It’s particularly eye-catching when planted where winter sun can shine through its golden needles. The compact size means it works brilliantly in rockeries, containers, or as part of a winter interest border.
‘Anny’s Winter Light’ is a tough, easy-to-grow pine that needs very little attention. Plant it in well-drained soil in full sun to get the best winter colour display. While it needs regular watering when first planted, it becomes quite drought-tolerant once established. No regular pruning is needed – it maintains its shape naturally. Feed lightly with an evergreen fertiliser in spring. This pine is very hardy and generally resistant to pests and diseases.
