Coast Redwood Sequoia sempervirens, also called the Californian redwood, is an impressive and towering evergreen conifer. Famous for its extraordinary height, it ranks amongst the world’s tallest tree species. The tree features graceful, needle-like leaves and characteristic reddish-brown bark that gives it real character. Thriving in damp, coastal conditions, the coast redwood makes an excellent choice for gardens and parks. Its magnificent stature and fascinating heritage create a striking centrepiece, bringing us closer to nature’s splendour and providing a peaceful atmosphere. The beauty of Coast Redwood Sequoia sempervirens brings the wonder of these prehistoric giants to your garden.

These ancient trees offer a powerful connection to nature’s grandest forms, leaving a memorable impact in any garden setting.

Coast Redwood Sequoia sempervirens, this magnificent species, now appears as “Endangered” on the IUCN Red List, showing the critical importance of conservation efforts. These incredible giants, previously common along North America’s western coastline, now face serious dangers from human interference, climate shifts, forest fires, and plant diseases. Loss of natural habitat through timber harvesting and changing land use has badly affected their numbers. Being among Earth’s tallest and most ancient tree species, protecting Coast Redwoods matters not just for their environmental importance but also for preserving the variety of life and strength of their special forest habitats.

Work to safeguard and rebuild their natural homes remains vital to keep this famous species alive for coming generations.

Coast Redwood Sequoia sempervirens boasts several incredible records:

1. Tallest Tree: Coast Redwoods are famous as Earth’s tallest trees. The present record-holder for the world’s tallest living tree is “Hyperion,” reaching an incredible height of roughly 379 feet (116 metres). Though new finds might reveal even taller examples.

2. Largest Living Organism: Coast Redwood forests create one of Earth’s biggest living organisms through their connected root networks, called “clones.” These clones span vast areas and include genetically matching trees sharing one root network.

3. Oldest Tree: Though not the most ancient species, some Coast Redwoods have survived over 2,200 years, placing them among Earth’s longest-living trees.

4. Largest Groves: California’s Coast Redwood forests, especially in places like Redwood National and State Parks, contain some of the biggest and most famous groves of these grand trees, forming breathtaking gardens.

5. Fastest Growth Rate: Coast Redwoods show remarkable growth speeds, with young trees gaining considerable height yearly. This quick growth helps create their towering size.

6. Carbon Sequestration: Thanks to their enormous size and long lives, Coast Redwoods work as effective carbon stores, capturing large amounts of carbon dioxide, making them valuable allies against climate change.
