The Japanese Red Pine Jane Kluis – Pinus densiflora is a delightful dwarf conifer that adds Eastern charm to any garden space. This compact variety grows slowly and develops a neat, rounded form, making it well-suited to smaller plots or as a standout feature in larger gardens. The bright green needles grow in thick clusters, creating a lovely textured look.

Jane Kluis works brilliantly in rock gardens, pots, or mixed borders. Its small size won’t take over your garden, and being evergreen means it looks good all year round. This pine really stands out during winter months when deciduous plants are bare.

Japanese Red Pine has been grown in Japan for hundreds of years, valued for its beauty in traditional garden design. The Jane Kluis variety is a newer development, specially bred to stay compact and suit garden growing.

This pine is tough and adaptable, doing well in gardens across Britain. It fights off most pests and diseases naturally, so it’s fairly hands-off for gardeners. The thick foliage offers good shelter for small birds, bringing wildlife benefits to your space.

With age, Jane Kluis builds up an appealing branch structure that gives your garden some architectural style. Its slow growth keeps it compact for years with very little pruning needed.

Japanese Red Pine Jane Kluis is relatively easy to care for. Plant it in well-drained soil in a sunny position. It tolerates a range of soil types but prefers slightly acidic conditions. Water regularly during its first growing season to establish a strong root system. Once established, it’s quite drought-tolerant. Pruning isn’t usually necessary, but you can remove any dead or damaged branches in late winter if needed. Feed with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in spring. This pine is generally pest and disease-resistant, making it a low-maintenance option for gardeners of all skill levels.

Great for garden planting or as a bonsai subject.

Supplied in a 5 litre pot.
